The McAllen Kids Marathon is a collaboration between McAllen ISD & City of McAllen and several public and private entities that are committed to teaching healthy living habits to the children of the Rio Grande Valley.
The challenge is for children to run the equivalent of a marathon — 26.2 miles — over a four-month period to get into the habit of daily exercise. The McAllen Kids Marathon kicks off with a pep rally on Sept. 28, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium (South of McAllen High School) in which students PreK- 8th grade gather as a community and run their first mile together.
During the next several weeks, students log additional miles they run or walk on an honor system until the community gathers again on Jan. 18, 2020 — the day before the annual McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run — to run their final mile together. Each student will receive a t-shirt and finisher’s medal commemorating their achievement.
It’s all FREE to students.
